Why teach reading in Filipino?
Mother tongue instruction has proven to be beneficial to students! Alongside cognitive development and laying a strong foundation for further learning, it can also involve parents more deeply in the learning process. What are leveled books?
Leveled books are systematically categorized based on text difficulty, starting from the easiest for emergent readers and progressively becoming more complex. Each level is designed to match the developing reading abilities of students.
Daily reading of leveled books helps students acquire and reinforce essential reading skills, behaviors, and comprehension abilities that are specific to each level. As students read and practice at a specific level, they gradually master these skills. Once mastery is achieved, they are ready to advance to the next level, continuing their reading development.
Thus, leveled books build a solid foundation for reading proficiency by providing appropriately challenging material at each stage of a student's development. This structured approach ensures that students are consistently engaged and motivated, as they are always reading texts suited to their current skill level. As they progress, they encounter increasingly complex vocabulary, sentence structures, and concepts, which gradually enhance their reading fluency and comprehension.
Furthermore, the use of leveled books allows educators to tailor their instruction to the individual needs of each student. Teachers can accurately assess a student's reading level and provide targeted support to address specific areas of difficulty. This personalized approach not only fosters a love of reading but also promotes confidence and independence in young readers.
Why are there 10 levels of FLB?
Our books are specifically targeted at first-grade students because this is the crucial stage for establishing foundational reading skills. According to global reading standards, a first-grade student is expected to meet reading benchmarks by reaching Level J by the end of the year. Therefore, our Filipino Leveled Books will cover the first ten reading levels, ensuring comprehensive support for early readers.
